Complete Required Broker A and Broker B Courses
Finish Broker Education
Complete 60 hours of Commission-approved South Carolina broker education, including the 30-hour Broker Unit IIIA and 30-hour Broker Unit IIIB courses. These courses build on your existing real estate knowledge and prepare you for the responsibilities of broker licensure.
Pass Your Broker Course Exams
Complete Final Assessments
After completing Broker IIIA and Broker IIIB, you must pass the required course exams to receive credit for your education. These assessments confirm your understanding of the advanced broker-level material covered during each course.
Complete the required assessment for each broker course and earn the passing score needed to receive your course completion documentation. South Carolina allows two attempts at a pre-licensing course exam before the course must be retaken.
Apply for Broker Exam Eligibility
Apply to the South Carolina Real Estate Commission
Once you meet South Carolina’s broker education and experience requirements, submit your application to SCREC. Broker applicants generally need three years of active licensed experience during the five years immediately before applying, although certain education-based exemptions may apply.
Your application and supporting documentation allow SCREC to determine whether you qualify to take the South Carolina broker licensing exam.

South Carolina broker applicants must complete state and federal fingerprint-based criminal background checks and a Social Security number-based background check as part of the licensing process. Follow the instructions provided by SCREC when completing the required screening.

Complete the Required Licensing Examination
Once SCREC approves your application, you’ll receive authorization to register with PSI for the South Carolina broker licensing exam. Applicants who are required to test must pass the applicable national and state portions before completing the remaining requirements for licensure.
The licensing exam evaluates the advanced knowledge needed to practice as a South Carolina real estate broker. After passing the required examination, follow SCREC instructions to complete your supervision attestation and remaining licensing requirements.
